How To Increase Video RAM on Windows. In this article, you will read methods to increase VRAM on Windows 10 and 11. Video RAM is also known as VRAM. It is the memory the GPU uses for the images you see on display. Graphic related data is stored in VRAM. It is built close to the GPU, to send the stored video data for faster processing. Your PC will get slow, if there is no VRAM as it will have to depend on the RAM to store the generated video data.
Low VRAM storage can cause buffering of the high graphic programs. To solve this issue, you must increase your device’s dedicated Video RAM. Read the article to know how to get more dedicated Video RAM.
How To Increase Video RAM on Windows?
You can use two various methods to increase the VRAM. One is from BIOS and the other one is from Registry editor.
How To Know Allocate VRAM Space?
Before increasing the VRAM, you have to know the allocated VRAM space on your PC. To do so:
1.Right-click on the start button to open the Power User’s Menu.
2.Click on the Settings option.
3.After the Settings app opens, click on the System option.
4.Then, select the Display option from the left panel.
5.Now on the right-panel, click on the Advanced Display Settings option in the Multiple Displays section.
6.Click on the Display adapter properties option.
7.In the Adapter tab, you will see the Total Available Graphics Memory information.
8.It will be in the Adapter Information section.
Method 1 – Use BIOS:
This is the most optimal method to increase the VRAM. To increase VRAM using BIOS:
1.Restart your computer.
2.Press the BIOS key repeatedly.
3.The BIOS key is generally F2, F5, F8, or Del key as it differs from PC to PC.
4.Then, locate the Advanced option or something similar to that.
5.Select it.
6.Next, click on the Graphics Settings option.
7.Look for VGA Share Memory Size or Video Settings if the Graphics Settings option is unavailable.
8.Set the dedicated VRAM to what you desire.
9.Finally, save the configuration.
10.Again restart the PC.
11.Check if the allocated VRAM has increased.
Method 2 – Use Registry Editor:
This method only works for Intel-integrated GPUs. Because, when you increase the VRAM in integrated graphics, the system will reallocate the required space to process the extra generated video data. And, some apps will only run when it detects the allocated VRAM for the PC.
So, use this method to fool these apps. To increase the VRAM using Registry Editor:
1.Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run utility.
2.Type regedit in the search bar.
3.Press Enter to open Registry Editor.
4.Navigate to the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Intel
5.Right-click on the Intel Key.
6.Select the New option.
7.Then click on the Key option.
8.Name the new key GMM.
9.Select the GMM key.
10.On the right panel, right-click on the empty area.
11.Click on the New option.
12.Then select the DWORD (32-bit) Value option.
13.Name the DWORD DedicatedSegmentSize.
14.Double-click on the DWORD you just created.
15.Then, change the Base to Decimal.
16.Enter a value from 0 to 512, the value signifies the new allocated VRAM.
17.Click on OK to save the changes.
18.Finally, restart the computer.
