How To Fix Printer Not Responding Issue?

Method 1 – Check The Printer Connection:

Firstly, check if the printer is connected properly. It would sound weird, however, it is better to check it first rather than find out later. Try to connect the printer to another port. Also, make sure that the wire is not torn or burnt.

Method 2 – Run The Printer Troubleshooter:

If the printer is not responding, then run the inbuilt troubleshooter for the printer in Windows 10. This software will detect the issue and solve it automatically.

To run the printer troubleshooter, follow the steps given below:

1.Type Troubleshoot Settings in the Windows search bar and select the top option.
2.Locate the Printer option in the Get up and running section and click on it.
3.Select the Run the troubleshooter option.

4.After the scan is complete, select your printer.
5.Click on the Next option.
6.Follow the instructions given by the troubleshooter to finish the troubleshooting process.
7.Restart your computer after the troubleshooting process is complete to check if the printer not responding error is gone or not.

Method 3 – Start The Print Spooler Service:

The print spooler service maintains the printer related tasks of the Windows. When this service is stopped or becomes disabled accidentally then this type of issue arises. To enable and start the print spooler service, follow the steps given below:

1.Open the Run utility by pressing the Windows + R keys on your keyboard.
2.Type services.msc and press Enter.
3.The Services console will open on your screen.
4.Scroll down and locate the Print Spooler service.
5.Double-click on the Print Spooler service.
6.The Printer Spooler Properties will get open.

7.In the General tab, change the Startup type to Automatic by selecting from the drop-down menu.
8.Now, click on the Start option to start the service.
9.Finally, click on Apply and OK to save the changes.

If the service is already enabled, then stopping and restarting it again can fix the issue. To stop the print spooler service:

1.Click on the Stop button in the General tab of Print Spooler Properties.

2.Click on the Apply and OK button.

Method 4 – Update Printer Drivers:

Outdated printer drivers can also cause the printer to stop responding. By updating them, the issue can be resolved. To do so:

1.Open the Run utility again.
2.Type devmgmt.msc.
3.Click on OK to open the Device Manager on your screen.

4.Expand the Print queues option and right-click on the printer driver.
5.Click on the Update driver option from the pop-up menu.

6.Select the Search automatically for updated driver software option.
7.Finally, restart your computer after the update is complete.

Method 5 – Uninstall Canon Drivers:

If wireless Canon printer is not responding, then uninstall the Canon drivers. To do so:

1.Open the Run utility again.
2.Type DELDRV64.EXE and press Enter.
3.The Canon’s uninstaller will open on the screen.
4.Follow the instructions given by the uninstallation wizard to complete the uninstallation process.
5.Now, restart your computer.
6.Enter the password of the wireless network on your Canon printer.
7.Make sure it is connected properly to the network.
8.Visit official Canon website.
9.Download the appropriate printer drivers for your operating system.
10.Install the driver from the downloaded setup file.
11.Restart the computer after the installation is finished.

This solution works only for Canon printers.

Method 6 – Configure Your Printer:

When printer is not configured properly, then this type of issue can occur. To properly configure the printer, follow the steps below:

1.Type Printers & Scanners in the Windows search bar.
2.Select the appropriate option.
3.Locate your printer and click on it.
4.Click on the Manage option.
5.Select the Printer properties option.

7.Click on Apply and Ok to save the changes.
8.Finally, restart your computer.
