Method 1 – Enable Microphone Permissions:
Chrome prioritizes security features a lot. So, it is important the access the permission for the microphone and camera. Enable the permission setting to allow Google to access the microphone. To fix the Google Voice search not working error:
1.Go to the following page to access the microphone settings:
chrome://settings/content/microphone
2.Turn on the toggle switch next to Blocked.
3.You will notice that the setting will now change to Ask before accessing (recommended).
Method 2 – Allow On-site Access:
Next step is to allow the website www.google.com to access the microphone to use the Google Voice search feature. To do so:
1.Visit google.com
2.In the Google search, click on the mic
3.Search for a video camera-shaped icon next to the address bar.
4.This will appear once you tap the microphone button on the search page.
5.Click on the icon.
6.You will see that the Microphone blocked message pops up.
7.Click on Always allow https://www.google.com to access your microphone.
8.Click Done.
9.It will allow Google to access the microphone.
Method 3 – Run Windows Troubleshooter:
If the above methods does not work, then run the Microsoft’s own Windows Troubleshooter to find any faulty device or application. Follow the steps:
1.Open the Settings.
2.You can use the keyboard shortcut (Win + I).
3.Click on Update & Security.
4.Select Troubleshoot from the left pane.
5.Select and click on Speech from the right pane.
6.Click on Run the Troubleshooter.
7.Wait for the troubleshooter to complete the scan.
8.It will diagnose the problems with your microphone.
Generally, it will show the outdated driver issue. For this, you have to update the device drivers. To do this:
1.Press Win + R to open a Run dialogue.
2.Type devmgmt.msc.
3.Press Enter to launch the device manager.
4.Locate the Audio inputs and outputs section.
5.Click on it to list the audio peripherals connected.
6.Right-click on your microphone.
7.Select Update driver.
8.Follow the on screen instructions.
9.Update your device drivers.
