Solution 2 – Change The Broken Controller:

If your game controller is not working, it might be broken. The USB cable can also be defective. Check your game controller by connecting it to some other computer, just to see if the controller works. You can also plug the controller into the Xbox or Playstation to check if it works.

Solution 3 – Disconnect All The Peripherals:

Many users have reported that peripherals of the computer can lead to the PC not detecting the controller. To solve this issue, disconnect all the peripherals and then reconnect them.

Solution 4 – Disable And Enable The Driver Of The Game Controller:

The faulty driver can also cause the gamepad not working issue. Disabling and enabling the driver can also solve the problem. To do this, follow the steps given below:

1.Open the Run utility by pressing the Windows + R keys.
2.Type devmgmt.msc.
3.Press Enter and device manager will get open.

4.Locate the gamepad driver and right-click on it.
5.Click on the Disable device option.
6.Then click on the Yes option on the pop-up dialogue.
7.Next, restart your computer.
8.Open the Device Manager again and right-click on the gamepad driver.
9.Now, click on the Enable device option.

Solution 5 – Reinstall The Game Controller Driver:

Outdated drivers can also cause the game controller not to work with the PC. Bu uninstalling the old drivers and reinstalling the new versions of the drivers can also solve the problem. To uninstall and install the new drivers, follow the procedure below.

To uninstall the driver:

1.Open the Device Manager.
2.Locate the gamepad driver and right-click on it.
3.Click on the Uninstall device option.
4.Then follow the to uninstall the driver.

To install the driver open the manufacturer’s website and install the latest version of your gamepad driver. If you want to install the driver in the compatibility mode, follow the steps:

1.After downloading the driver, right-click on the setup file.
2.Click on the Properties option.
3.Select the Compatibility tab.
4.Check the Run this program in compatibility mode for the box.
5.Click on the drop-down menu.
6.Select the Windows 8 option.

7.At the end, click on the apply option and then press OK to save the changes and run the setup file.
8.Restart the computer after installation.

Solution 6 – Disable The Auto Turn Off Plugged In Devices Feature:

Windows have a feature that turn-off the plugged-in devices completely. If this feature is turned on then, this can cause the game controller not to work properly. To disable the auto turn off plugged-in devices feature, follow the steps given below:

1.Open the Run utility by pressing the Windows + R keys.
2.Type devmgmt.msc.
3.Press Enter and device manager will get open.
4.Locate the USB Serial Bus controllers option and expand it.
5.Right-click on the USB Root Hub driver.
6.Click on the Properties option from the pop-up menu.

7.Select the Power Management tab.
8.Uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save the power box.
9.Finally, click on the OK option.

Solution 7 – Disable The USB Selective Suspend Setting:

When the USB selective suspend feature is enabled, the PC does not detect the controller. To disable this option, follow the below-given steps:

1.Type Power & sleep settings in the Windows search bar.
2.Select the top option.
3.Click on the Additional power settings option below the Related settings.
4.Next, click on the Change plan settings beside the Balanced (recommended) option.
5.Select the Change advanced power settings option.

6.Now, locate the USB settings option and expand it.
7.Next, expand the USB selective suspend setting option.
8.Click on the Setting and then select the Disable option.
9.Finally, click on Apply and OK to save the changes.
