Defragmentation removes fragmented (broken into pieces) files from the hard disk. This improves the performance of the computer. All data is rearranged on the hard drive. It increases the system’s performance and speed.

Over time, the data is stored in the hard disk and it gets scattered in various locations on the hard disk. This is called data fragmentation.

The PC finds it difficult to find the fragmented data. Like if you keep your clothes in the cupboard in an organized manner. You will find anything easily. But, if all the stuff is scattered, it will be very difficult for you to find the desired item. So, defragging in Windows means defragmentation of data, in which you put everything in order for easy navigation.

How To Defrag Manually?

Defragging is not important in Windows 10, as it does this automatically. Windows 10 defrags your HDDs automatically from time to time. And, if you are using SSD, then avoid defragging.

If you want to manually defrag Windows 10:

1.Type Defragment and Optimize Drives in the search bar.
2.Select the appropriate option.
3.This will open the Optimize Drives dialog.
4.All the NTFS drives in your PC will show up in the list.
5.Any drive that is in exFAT or FAT32 format cannot be defragmented and it will not be listed.
6..Click on the drive you want to defrag.
7.Select the Optimize option.
8.This will start defragmenting the drive if you are using an HDD.

9.This same step will run the TRIM command on SSDs.
10.Wait for the defragmentation to finish before closing it.
